Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon on Reducing Sagging Skin With Arm Lift Surgery

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwired - Feb 20, 2014) - In recent years and for many reasons, the popularity of arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) has skyrocketed. Dr. Turkeltaub, however, has been performing this plastic surgery procedure for more than a quarter of a century on patients who have excessive and lax skin hanging from their arms. This procedure can result in firmer, smoother, more shapely and youthful appearing arms.

According to Dr. Turkeltaub, the major reasons that people develop lax and redundant skin of their arms are age, substantial weight loss and genetics. Because excess skin cannot be eliminated by exercise or weight lifting, Dr. Turkeltaub states that surgery, which involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper arms with contouring, is typically the only way to significantly tighten the skin. An arm lift (medically termed a brachioplasty) removes the excess skin and fat around the arm in order to create a more youthful and attractive contour.

At the Arizona Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Turkeltaub's Scottsdale plastic surgery practice, arm lifts are typically performed as an outpatient surgery. He says that the discomfort right after surgery is surprisingly mild and well tolerated by most of his patients. A compression garment is worn for the first two weeks after surgery and patients are instructed to wait at least three to four weeks before engaging in any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise. However, he does state that the details of the recovery process, including restrictions, will vary from patient to patient.

Dr. Turkeltaub notes that many of his arm lift patients combine the procedure with others including lower body lifts, tummy tucks, breast reduction, or breast augmentation with or without a breast lift for a more complete body rejuvenation.

Overall, Dr. Turkeltaub says that an arm lift can create a significant and quite worthwhile improvement in the appearance of the upper arms, helping many patients feel better about themselves and their appearance.
