LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 28, 2014) - King Ice, an online urban jewelry retailer, is prominently featured in Katy Perry's new music video for the hit single, "Dark Horse." The company worked directly with celebrity stylist Kim Bowen to handpick jewelry for the men in the video. The music video features Katy Perry as an Egyptian queen adorned in neon garb and jewels. The men in the video are adorned with King Ice gold chains, pendants, and rings. One particular pendant garnered ire from the Muslim community.
In "Dark Horse" Egyptian queen Katy Perry is being courted by multiple suitors each vying for her approval through unique gifts. King Ice jewelry appeared on four of the five suitors. Jewelry featured in the video includes a King Ice logo diamond pendant, a custom Notorious B.I.G. pendant, multiple King Tut necklaces, dookie rope chains, curb chains, and an Allah necklace, the last of which created a substantial controversy.
In the video, a suitor approaches Katy Perry wearing an 'Allah' pendant which is God in Arabic. After the suitor presents his gift, Perry incinerates him into a pile of dust. Burning the 'Allah' pendant angered the Muslim community and led to more than 60,000 people signing a change.org petition to remove the video from YouTube. The video has since been edited to remove all instances of the 'Allah' pendant.
"It's unfortunate," said Derek of King Ice. "I doubt that they intentionally tried to insult anyone and they have correctly since removed it. We are just proud to have our products featured throughout the video."
