SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 9, 2014) - Acacia Communications, the leader in delivering intelligent transceivers for ultra-high speed fiber optic transmission to the telecommunications and data communications industry, today at OFC 2014 announced that the company is shipping samples of the industry's first Coherent 100G CFP module to customers. The substantial reductions in size, cost and power consumption make the AC100-CFP especially attractive for carriers and content providers deploying 100G in the fast growing Metro segment.
"We are enabling cost-sensitive metro network operators to move to 100G and achieve significant performance and capacity benefits," said Acacia President and CEO Raj Shanmugaraj. "Our 100G DWDM Coherent CFP module offers carriers and content providers optimal flexibility, at price points comparable to non-coherent short reach or client CFPs like LR4 or multi-wavelength ODB. Furthermore the AC100-CFP's lowest power and smallest form factor enable the highest densities for Coherent interfaces in the market, while reducing the total cost per bit. Coherent CFP is a technology game changer similar to XFP for 10G and our AC-100 CFP is the first to market."
"Demand for 100G DWDM modules was strong in 2013 and our recent market forecast shows the market for these products rapidly growing in 2014-2018. However, our forecast assumes that optical component and module suppliers will find ways to reduce cost, size and power consumption of 100G optical interfaces," commented Vladimir Kozlov, PhD., Founder and CEO of LightCounting Market Research. "Acacia's CFP product addresses these challenges by combining company's expertise in 100G Digital Signal processing and module design with innovative technology of silicon photonics."
Acacia's innovative Coherent AC-100 CFP transceiver is the lowest power Coherent 100G interface in the market. The new product tracks 24 watts in the 80km ZR mode, and slightly higher for the metro regional mode for distances up to 1200 km, with the digital signal processing algorithms collectively under 5 watts.
"Leveraging Acacia's innovation in low power digital signal processing and disruptive photonic integration, we have been able to maintain the performance advantages of our Coherent long-haul 5 x 7 MSA module within the AC100-CFP," said Acacia Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer Benny Mikkelsen. "Industry leading capabilities such as pluggability and built-in OTN framing that converts client CFP slots to DWDM Metro Interface slots and multi-vendor interoperability has earned us wins with more than 15 equipment manufacturers who are designing the AC-100 CFP into their product families, supplying to telecom, cable and data center service providers. With the continuous innovation in low power digital signal processing and photonic integration, we see an exciting roadmap of pluggables starting with the Coherent CFPs that will evolve to CFP2 with built-in Digital Signal Processing in 2015."
