DENVER, CO--(Marketwired - Mar 14, 2014) - The fastest accelerating vehicle on the planet isn't an exotic sports car or a military jet -- it's a top-fuel dragster. Yet despite the incredible power and speed of top-fuel dragsters, most self-described racing fans don't know a top fuel dragster when they see one.
More than 200 self-described auto racing fans were shown a photo of a dragster and asked whether or not the vehicle shown was a "top fuel" dragster. 33.5% answered incorrectly, while 33.8% answered "Not sure." Only 32.7% of those surveyed said the vehicle shown was not a Top Fuel dragster.
The survey was conducted in February 2014 using Google Surveys. The survey results (as well as the image of the vehicle responders were asked to identify) can be seen here.
"Considering the incredible performance of Top Fuel dragsters, it's surprising that so many racing fans don't even know what a Top Fuel car looks like," says Jason Lancaster, President of Spork Marketing, the company that conducted the survey.
WeRMopar.com recently published an infographic detailing the incredible power of Top Fuel dragster, noting that:
- The fastest-accelerating vehicle on the planet is a Top Fuel Dragster, capable of reaching 100mph in 8/10ths of a second and 200mph in 2.2 seconds
- Top Fuel dragsters consume 4-6 gallons of nitromethane fuel in as little as 1/8th of a mile. That's a fuel economy rating of 32-48 gallons per mile.
- Top Fuel dragsters generate more than 7,000hp, which is more than 15 times the horsepower of a NASCAR racer at the Daytona 500
