LAS VEGAS, April 7, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Envivio (Nasdaq:ENVI), a leading provider of software-based video processing and delivery solutions, today announced new cloud-based video processing solutions. Envivio is integrating its core software, Envivio Muse™ encoders and Envivio Halo™ network media processors, into OpenStack cloud software, an open source project with more than 200 companies as contributors. Envivio is also partnering with the leading over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform, 1 Mainstream, to deliver a turnkey end-to-end cloud-based video service.
Envivio's software has been fully virtualized and commercially deployed on a large scale at a leading cable operator in the United States, using VMWare's virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions. Envivio and 1 Mainstream have also already teamed to deliver a cloud video service for a Tier 1 operator in Europe who wanted to quickly deliver live OTT channels to the big screen.
"With consumer technology rapidly changing and adoption accelerating, operators now look for faster time to market and greater flexibility to roll out and to scale their multiscreen services," said Arnaud Perrier, vice president of strategy and corporate development for Envivio. "Deploying our software in a private or public cloud environment with OpenStack makes launching and operating video services much easier and cost effective. Those looking to entirely eliminate CAPEX can opt for our end-to-end cloud service."
Cloud software
Media and IT operations are now converging thanks to software-based video processing. Service providers can reduce their operational costs by unifying their infrastructure and managing video operations as another application in their cloud, alongside other applications such as email and web portals.
Operators can virtualize, scale and upgrade video processing infrastructure as needed with Envivio, either in a private cloud environment or leveraging the public cloud to deliver their video services. They can benefit from the flexibility and elasticity of the cloud—without suffering any impact on critical broadcast requirements of video quality and density—using Envivio software fully virtualized in a real-time environment.
End-to-end cloud service
Envivio and 1 Mainstream are collaborating to offer a turnkey end-to-end any-screen video service in the cloud. This fully integrated video delivery service significantly reduces time-to-market and cost by employing a pay-as-you-grow model that allows content and service providers to scale the service with usage. The end-to-end services available include encoding, packaging, digital rights management (DRM), billing, ad mediation, content delivery network (CDN) and apps. Video delivery is currently available on high engagement platforms such as Apple TV, XBox, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, iOS/Android tablets, and Samsung Smart TVs.
"Envivio's products speak for themselves when it comes to quality, clarity, and reliability," said 1 Mainstream CEO Rajeev Raman. "Integrating them into our cloud video platform will unlock extraordinary opportunities for pay TV operators, broadcasters, and networks that have been cost-, speed-, and scale-constrained thus far."
The 1 Mainstream and Envivio service will be on display at the Envivio booth #SU6202 during NAB 2014. Envivio will also showcase dynamic video encoding and network provisioning in a fully virtualized OpenStack environment at NAB, demonstrating this new workflow approach for cloud software running in an IT datacenter.
More than 300 content and service providers around the globe have selected Envivio to power their multi-screen and pay TV services. Visit www.envivio.com to learn more about TV without boundaries.
