LONG BEACH, CALIF., April 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Queen Mary Classic, April 28, 2014 will give regional golfers the opportunity to play on one of the most exclusive and well regarded courses in the country and help the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House continue its mission to assist children with life threatening illnesses and their families.
Located in the Long Beach's historic Bixby District, the secluded Virginia Country Club is without doubt one of California's golfing crown jewels. This is a player's course with mature surroundings, challenging architecture and impeccable greens.
"We are honored to host the first Queen Mary Classic at Virginia Country Club" said tournament chair, Twain Schreiber. "This exclusive course is envied by golfers across the country and we are deeply appreciative of the opportunity to play here while supporting the McDonald House mission." The shotgun best ball team format allows players of any skill level to contribute to the team effort. "Without question, this is a challenging course for the low handicapper; and for the high handicap player - the Queen Mary Classic provides the opportunity to understand why great golf courses are appreciated regardless of what the scorecard reads at the end of the round."
A cocktail reception, silent auction, live auction and awards ceremony will follow end of play.
"Virginia Country Club, established in 1909, is emblematic of Long Beach and its historic past. On September 26, 2014 another icon - the Queen Mary will celebrate its 80th Anniversary. Our tournament invites players to rub shoulders with living history while contributing to the well being of children in need and their families. They will be challenged by a truly reserved course and in the company of other players who love the game and love helping others," Schreiber added.
