ALISO VIEJO, CA--(Marketwired - May 5, 2014) - WaveTec Vision, the leader in intraoperative wavefront measurement technology for cataract surgeons, today announced that the number of cataract surgeries performed using its proprietary ORA System® with VerifEye™surged in April, surpassing 11,000 for the month. This is a 21 percent increase in procedure volume over the company's first quarter average.
The ORA System with VerifEye optimizes intraoperative wavefront data during cataract surgery to calculate intraocular lens (IOL) power, as well as magnitude and axis of astigmatism. It is the technology of choice for high-volume cataract surgeons nationwide who use it to provide critical feedback and guide premium IOL selection.
"This growth is further validation of the value that the ORA System with VerifEye is bringing to the refractive cataract surgery market," said Tom Frinzi, WaveTec president and CEO. "On average our customers perform 35 procedures per month using ORA. That puts us on track to surpass 150,000 procedures for the year -- that is more volume than the prior two-and-a-half years combined."
The ORA System, which has been tested, refined and optimized with over 10 software/hardware upgrades, has captured four percent of overall U.S. cataract surgery volume and has made a significant impact in the premium IOL channel.
