GREENSBORO, N.C., May 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Prophecy Healthcare Inc. has become a corporate sponsor for the local Rotary Club of the Triad's 5K and Fun Run being held around the campus of River Landing in Colfax, NC. Scheduled for Saturday, May 31st, 2014, the Fun Run will begin at 8:30am followed by the 5K at 9:00am. Proceeds of the Rotary Club of the Triad's 5K and Fun Run will benefit the international hunger relief agency "Stop Hunger Now."
First chartered in 1978, the members of the Rotary Club of the Triad provide direct support to selected charities by participating in service projects and fundraisers. In 2013, the Rotary Club of the Triad and area volunteers packed 16,000 meals for "Stop Hunger Now."
Since 1998, Stop Hunger Now has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families and countries all over the world to fulfill its commitment to end hunger. The meal-packaging program began in 2005 and has perfected the assembly process over time that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. With each meal costing only 25 cents, proceeds of the Rotary Club of the Triad's 5K and Fun Run will stretch far to provide meals to many individuals in need.

The United Nations estimates that 21,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes; the majority of victims are children before they reach their fifth birthday. The room for improvement in these statistics is indisputable. Through the combined efforts of organizations like the Rotary Club of the Triad and Stop Hunger Now, positive progress in reducing those inflicted with the pains of hunger is promising.
