TORONTO, May 12, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CFA Society Toronto's Board of Directors and member of CFA Institute's Board of Governors, Roger Urwin opened the market of the Toronto Stock Exchange today to kick off the local celebration of Putting Investors First Month.
This May commemorates CFA Institute's Putting Investors First Month, a global initiative which aims to encourage financial professionals to place the interests of investors above their own, and build awareness of the fiduciary duty to protect investor interests. CFA Society Toronto is celebrating this exciting initiative as a part of our Annual Wealth Conference, A Private Client Perspective at which Roger Urwin will explore industry reforms and making investors a priority.
"The central issue we face today is changing a culture that all too often supports an excess of self-interest rather than a focus on client-interest. The core value in asset management should be meeting client interests." said Urwin.
Putting Investors First Month activities will be held in more than 50 cities around the world by CFA societies representing more than 35,000 investment professionals. The initiative is part of the Future of Finance project, a long-term global effort to shape a trustworthy, forward-thinking financial industry that better serves society and will feature a series of events and outreach throughout the month of May, hosted by many of the organization's 143 member societies worldwide.
"Putting investors first is one of the fundamental steps that investment professionals can make to help strengthen trust within the industry. By creating an environment where service to clients comes first, there is value gained for everyone involved." said CFA Society Toronto CEO, Sue Lemon, CFA.
