PORT ARTHUR, TX--(Marketwired - May 13, 2014) - GT Logistics, LLC announced today that it has received Union Pacific (UP) Railroad's 2013 Chemical Transportation Safety Pinnacle Award for work performed at GT OmniPort, its Port Arthur, Texas crude by rail and railcar storage terminal. This honor recognizes Union Pacific customers that have exhibited safe loading practices and achieved zero non-accident releases (NARs) during their 2013 shipments of regulated hazardous materials shipments.
"Recognition of our safety culture and the excellent results we have achieved is very meaningful to us; the safe handling and transportation of our customer's products is a top priority for GT OmniPort and we are honored to receive this award from Union Pacific," said Beau Maida, Vice President - Rail, GT Logistics.
GT OmniPort began operations in 2012, serving industrial clients in the Southeast Texas and Western Louisiana regions as well as shippers of crude by rail from producing regions of the United States and Canada. In 2013, GT OmniPort began system improvements in order to receive unit trains of Canadian crude in dilbit, railbit and bitumen form. From day one, GT OmniPort has adhered to an extensive safety training and operations plan focused on winning the UP Pinnacle Award, a difficult achievement for any organization. Stringent criteria for the award included safe-loading techniques, secure shipments and zero NARs. NARs refer to leaks, splashes and other unintentional releases of hazardous material(s) while in transportation that are not caused by derailment, collision or other rail-related accidents. Preventing such releases through properly secured valves, fittings and other devices is crucial to help carriers and shippers avoid service delays and cleanup costs in addition to possible personnel exposures or environmental impact.
"The Pinnacle is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees. They have embraced our corporate mission of protecting the local environment and human health and safety," said Tim DeSpain, President and Co-Founder GT Logistics.
