Senior White House Official Edward Siskel to Join WilmerHale

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 15, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Edward Siskel, Deputy White House Counsel and Deputy Assistant to the President, is joining the firm in its Washington DC office. Mr. Siskel has also served in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and as an Assistant United States Attorney.

"Ed has the perfect combination of skills and experience to serve our clients in our most challenging cases. A former clerk to Justice Paul Stevens and a seasoned trial lawyer, Ed can handle the most difficult litigation and enforcement matters. He also brings years of experience at the highest levels of the Department of Justice and the White House, navigating issues that combine regulatory, litigation and public policy challenges," said Robert Novick, co-managing partner of WilmerHale. "Ed is a versatile lawyer, who can try a case, handle a difficult investigation, or advise clients on complicated regulatory and constitutional issues."

In his role at the White House, Mr. Siskel provided legal and strategic advice to senior Executive Branch officials on issues regarding compliance, oversight, national security and risk management, among others. Prior to that role, he held a senior position in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the DOJ advising the Deputy Attorney General, senior officials of the DOJ, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies on criminal justice, national security and other litigation matters.

Mr. Siskel will be among the leaders of the firm's Strategic Response Group. WilmerHale Partner Jamie Gorelick, who co-chairs the group, said, "We handle matters that cut across judicial, regulatory and congressional proceedings. Ed understands both the interplay among different branches of government and the reputational issues that are so important to corporations and their executives."

"I am excited to be rejoining WilmerHale, and look forward to building a practice at the intersection of government investigations, strategic response, litigation, and public policy," said Mr. Siskel. "WilmerHale, with its well-known reputation in regulatory and litigation matters, as well as its strong culture of public service, is the perfect fit for me."

From 2005-2009, Mr. Siskel served as an Assistant US Attorney in the US Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Illinois investigating and prosecuting cases involving complex corporate fraud, public corruption, identity theft, money laundering and child exploitation cases. He joined Wilmer Cutler Pickering's Washington DC office in 2002 after clerking for Judge Dorothy Nelson on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and for Justice John Paul Stevens on the US Supreme Court following law school.

Mr. Siskel earned his law degree in 2000 from the University of Chicago with high honors, Order of the Coif, where he also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Chicago Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University with high honors in 1994.
