HAUPPAUGE, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2014) - In conjunction with New York State and the ILOVENY Path Through History initiative, Long Island, N.Y. has created a program to highlight the unique historical attractions, museums, living history and other sites across Long Island. The Long Island Path Through History website launch coincides with the upcoming state-wide Path Through History Weekends. More than 200 special events are planned June 7-8 and 14-15 at venues throughout the state, including Long Island, N.Y.
Visit the Long Island Path Through History website and find an interactive map searchable by historic interest; find upcoming Long Island history events; view video; and explore full listings of attractions grouped into historic themes.
Long Island history is filled with rich and fascinating tales of early settlers, Revolutionary War spies, maritime adventures, and great advances in science, aviation and transportation.
Explore the homes of past presidents, poets and artists, including President Theodore Roosevelt, poet Walt Whitman and Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock, all of whom lived on Long Island and were inspired to create some of their most memorable contributions to society here.
Visit sites related to Charles Lindbergh's famous trans-Atlantic flight from Roosevelt Field, and see the model Lunar Module that engineers from Long Island's Grumman Corp. worked to develop.
Explore the Gold Coast region, where the mansions, castles and gardens (many now open to the public for tours) inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald to write "The Great Gatsby."

About Path Through History
Path Through History highlights historically and culturally significant sites and events throughout New York State. The program, introduced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, builds on New York's already robust heritage tourism attractions. Important heritage sites and events across the state were selected with input from leading historians. The program includes identifying markers on major state highways as well as additional local signage with the distinctive Path Through History logo to help point the way. The website, http://paththroughhistory.ny.gov/, provides a list of sites along with information about each place.
