DODGEVILLE, WI--(Marketwired - Jul 9, 2014) - It's a new school year, a fresh start -- time for a new first-day outfit and back-to-school wardrobe. As millions of parents and kids begin their school shopping adventures, Lands' End Kids rises to the occasion with stylish, on-trend wardrobe options along with advice, ideas and the convenience of one-stop shopping at landsend.com.
Families Seeking Convenience, Style and Value
"We know families are busy all year. Our goal is to make back-to-school shopping easy and fun. Moms, dads & kids can find everything from backpacks to uniforms to current fashions in one place," said Syndi Stark, vice president, Lands' End Kids. "Our designers have scoured the marketplace to create items that are on-trend, that kids want to wear. As parents ourselves, we also know that durability and value have to be a part of the equation. We design with style and substance in mind."
2014 Back-to-School Trends
From the playground to math class, phys-ed to afterschool activities, Lands' End Kids has it covered in style. Plus, with sizes that include regular, slim, plus and husky, everybody fits. Here's a look at some of the style trends for the 2014 back-to-school season.
TREND: Jeanswear from Top to Bottom
Among the key trends for 2014 is jeanswear. Jeans are everywhere -- from tops to bottoms and dresses. All jeanswear looks sharp when paired with bold colors such as saturated hues of orange, pink and yellow. It's a great backdrop for all the layering pieces this fall.
Look for a variety of silhouettes, such as slim, classic and relaxed fits for him and pencil leg for her, in an almost endless section of washes. Iron Knee® Jeans for him feature durability where he needs it most, plus new washes including Vintage Gray and a green, Rich Clover. For her, look for jeans with dots and floral prints and jeggings.
On top, Chambray shirts for him and her layer well under sweaters, sweatshirts and Sherpa-lined Hoodies. A new Pattern Denim Jacket for girls updates a classic piece with dots. A new Short Sleeve Twirl Dress in Light Indigo Blue Floral is an easy choice for back-to-school mornings. Just add a Sophie Cardigan in a zebra print for added warmth on cooler mornings.
TREND: Dressed-Up Comfort
Playing right into a child's need for comfort, 2014 back-to-school shoppers will see "dressed-up comfort" with items such as sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants and track pants paired with dressier items such as poplin shirts.
If it's itchy or uncomfortable, kids won't wear it. Lands' End has made comfortable pieces like sweatshirts, sweatpants, knits and activewear even more stylish. Look for embellished and printed sweatshirts for her. For boys, pair a poplin shirt with sweatpants with rolled legs for a look that's almost like Dad's.
The Knit Kit for girls is a smart choice that includes a complete suite of dresses, leggings, skirts and skorts that are easy to wear and care for. Bright colors and patterns make them a snap for mixing and matching. The new Legging Tee that's shorter than a dress, but longer than a top, is perfect for wearing with leggings.
Sherpa-lined Hoodies will be everywhere this fall. The zip-up tops are almost the un-jacket -- providing the warmth of a coat but easy wear that kids crave. Crewneck sweatshirts will also take center stage. For girls, soft terry fabrics featuring floral, rugby stripes, lace and metallic embellishments are complemented with raglan sleeves and keyhole back with a bow and button closure, making it practical for play and dress.
In footwear, comfort and style rules. All Lands' End Kids footwear is designed to be as comfortable as it is stylish. Look for boys' and girls' Chukka Boots in solids and a new camo print. Sparkly Cameron Captoe Ballet shoes for her have cushioned insoles. A new Cocoa Shimmer Camouflage style comes complete with a bow.
TREND: Flora- and Fauna-Inspired Prints, Designs
Much of kids' fall fashion is taking its cue from nature. Woodland creatures including owls and foxes debut on intarsia sweaters for girls. More exotic animal prints can be seen on hoodies, cardigans and graphic tees.
Kids have so much personality. This season's prints and designs really allow them to express it. Be sure to mix it up -- pair stripes and dots with leopard and floral prints. All options are open this season.
For girls, look for floral prints throughout tops and bottoms, including sweatshirts and Pencil Leg Pattern Cord Pants. A brown leopard print can be seen on everything from backpacks, the Cameron Captoe Ballet shoes and the Sophie Cardigan to a twill skort. Look for zebra stripes on a Sherpa-Lined Hoodie, cardigans and more. An adorable intarsia sweater for her features a fox and owl. Even sweatshirts and cardigans feature jeweled owls.
For boys, short-sleeve and long-sleeve graphic tees feature NASA and space-inspired designs that glow in the dark, sea creatures and sports themes.
TREND: Tops Designed for Intentional Layering
Layering is a great way to build upon a back-to-school wardrobe. The good news is that the layered look is big this back-to-school season. So start with the basics like a tee and jeans, then add a button-up shirt and hoodie as the temps dip. Roll sleeves under cardigans and sweatshirts. Top off a boy's poplin shirt with a long-sleeve graphic tee.
Key layering pieces for her include the jean jacket, Sherpa-lined Hoodie, Sophie Cardigan, down vests, flannel shirts and Peter Pan collar woven shirts. Layer him with graphic tees, poplin shirts, pullover hoodies and Sherpa-lined Hoodies.
