Government Leaders to Present on Identity, Access Security Achievements at Smart Card Alliance 10th Anniversary Celebration of HSPD-12

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., July 17, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Government leaders and federal agency heads have been chosen to lead off the upcoming Smart Card Alliance event celebrating the 10^th anniversary of the landmark security directive HSPD-12¹ with special keynote presentations reflecting on the past, present and future of identity and security in government.

The one-day "Government Conference Special Edition Event: Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of HSPD-12," held with support from FICAM² and the Interagency Advisory Board (IAB), will take place on July 31, 2014 at the Marriott Metro Center Hotel in Washington, D.C. The lead-off keynote session topics are:

• "The Vision for Secure Government Identity and Access Management," Howard Schmidt, retired special assistant to the President, cyber security coordinator at executive office of the President
• "Aligning Government Security Objectives with Commercial Opportunities," Van Hitch, former CIO at DOJ and chair of the Federal CIO Council         

"The HSPD-12 directive mobilized the entire security industry and provided the vision to standardize the government's once disjointed identification, card issuance and access management infrastructure to make it more secure, trusted and interoperable," said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. "We are pleased to welcome top government officials to this celebration to present on identity credentialing and access security advances over the past decade, as well as looking at future developments in policy and evolving standards for PIV credentials including their use on mobile devices and cloud systems."

The program also includes roundtable and government/industry sessions during the second half of the event, with topics including:

In addition to the main program, a small identity management and access control vendor showcase will be held to allow government attendees to visit and learn more about the security products and services that HSPD-12 has fostered in the government market.

The "Government Conference Special Edition Event: Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of HSPD-12," is free of charge to federal government employees who have a PIV card or Common Access Card (CAC).
