The BIGGER Swim-A Swim From New Brunswick to PEI and BACK in Recognition of a Father and the Neil Squire Society

MONCTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - Aug. 20, 2014) -

Jeremy Davidson, a Canadian forces member, will be swimming 30km across the Northumberland Straight from New Brunswick to PEI and back again on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Jeremy will be swimming in honour of his father and in recognition of the Neil Squire Society's 30^th Anniversary and the supportive work that they have done for his father.

Jeremy's father, Daniel, was diagnosed with a severe form of arthritis in 2010. Daniel's debilitating state changed his lifestyle from weekly mini-biathlons to relying on a cane to walk. Forced to leave his career because of the chronic pain, Daniel became frustrated with the inability to work, and felt confined by unsuccessful modern medicine. Jeremy recommended that his father try a different approach and Daniel discovered the Neil Squire Society. After learning about the programs at the Neil Squire Society, Daniel quickly enrolled in the Neil Squire Society's Employ-Ability Program; a program which helps individuals with disabilities re-enter the workforce through education and assistive technologies.

Where no other help seemed available, the Neil Squire Society provided Daniel with the right help and motivation to get him on the path to a healthier lifestyle. Jeremy has decided to dedicate his swim to raise funds for the Neil Squire Society and bring awareness to what they have done for his father.

"Neil Squire Society and my dad are doing their part, and now it's time for me to do mine. I hope that people will come to realize the great work that the people at Neil Squire Society are doing for people like my dad, and the incredible changes they create in people's lives!" says Jeremy.

With anticipated success, Jeremy hopes that this will be the first year of many in which he can swim in honour of his father and the Neil Squire Society. "Who knows, maybe next year we can make this an 'Even BIGGER Swim' by making it a 3 point course: NB, PEI and NS!" says Jeremy.

Jeremy "The Northumberland Man" Davidson is currently serving with the Canadian Armed Forces in Gagetown, New Brunswick. On his time away from the base, he is an amateur long-distance swimmer a member of the CFB Gagetown Warriors Triathlon Team.
