Washington Eye Doctors Give Back to Their Community and See Results

MT. VERNON, WA--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2014) - The eye doctors at North Cascade Eye Associates (NCEA) are committed to caring for the vision of their patients, though their commitment extends to the person as a whole. Each year, NCEA participates in a number of national and international community building projects, including their "St. Jude Fun Run" to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital as well as various mission trips around the world to help those who do not have proper access to eye care. In addition to these far reaching service projects, they also help their immediate community by sponsoring an Excellence in Education Scholarship.

The Excellence in Education Scholarship is awarded to a local high school senior planning on attending college for a career in the medical field. "They might be future doctors, nurses, medical technicians, medical coding specialists, or patient services coordinators, but our scholarship students are always special," notes a recent NCEA blog post titled, "2014 Excellence in Education Scholarship Winner." This year's winner, Miranda Wesen, intends on pursuing a pre-med degree at Pacific Lutheran University and ultimately wants to work with Doctors Without Borders. As she shares the same community-minded values and ambitions the practice does, Miranda's own commitment to service resonated with the Washington eye doctors at NCEA.

In a subsequent blog post, titled, "NCEA Scholarship Winners - Where Are They Now?," the practice catches up with some of the winners from past years. NCEA has been participating in the Excellence in Education Scholarship program since 2003, and their award recipients have achieved some major accomplishments. One former winner has graduated from Pacific University with a BS in Exercise Science and is currently studying to earn his Doctorate of Physical Therapy as well as completing an internship in Cape Town, South Africa. Another former winner graduated from the University of Washington with a double BS degree in Chemistry and BioChem, is currently attending the University of Illinois for his PhD in Chemistry, and plans on becoming a teacher afterward.
