ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 14, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- White Pine Systems ("White Pine") announced today that its patient portal, the SPINN Patient Engagement Platform v 3.2, has been tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Certification Body (ONC-ACB) program. This EHR software is compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
White Pine is a provider of online and mobile patient engagement systems. White Pine's SPINN Community Care Coordination System includes several modules that bring together patient engagement and activation solutions for physical health, behavioral health and social supports to create an integrated community care coordination network.
"With this certification, providers can have confidence that they are using a solution that will not only help them achieve Meaningful Use but which will also establish a foundation that allows them to address the critical challenges of the most complex health conditions, to improve health outcomes and lower cost," said Doug Dormer, White Pine's founder and CEO. "Last year $1.4 trillion dollars, almost 50 percent of total healthcare cost, was incurred by just five percent of the population. This typically comprises people with multiple chronic conditions, often including both physical and behavioral health conditions. These people also have a very high need for social supports, like employment services, or assistance with involvement in the criminal justice system. Patient engagement that extends beyond physical health to include behavioral health and social supports is critical to achieving the objectives of healthcare reform."
Drummond Group's ONC-ACB certification program certifies that EHRs meet the meaningful use criteria for either eligible provider or hospital technology. In turn, healthcare providers using the EHR systems of certified vendors are qualified to receive federal stimulus monies upon demonstrating meaningful use of the technology – a key component of the federal government's push to improve clinical care delivery through the adoption and effective use of EHRs by U.S. healthcare providers.
The SPINN Patient Engagement Platform meets the requirements for EHR Modular Inpatient certification and EHR Modular Ambulatory certification. The SPINN Patient Engagement Platform combines the convenience of a personal health record with the power and connectivity of an interoperable patient portal. SPINN lets patients - as well as users they authorize - view, download or transmit personal health information and communicate with their care team. As a part of the larger SPINN Community Care Coordination system, the SPINN Patient Engagement Platform provides the foundation for White Pine's community-focused model of health and wellness.
This EHR module is 2014 Edition compliant and has been certified by an ONC-ACB in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.
