Washington, D.C., Nov. 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In response to the recent Ebola outbreak and the importance that Vascular Access devices and procedures play in clinician treatment of patients with this disease, the Association for Vascular Access (AVA) , through AVA TV, its Internet TV channel produced in partnership with TV Worldwide, is introducing a series of video programs on best practices and updates to safety procedures. The purpose of this 'Ebola Update' Series is to provide the latest information needed to keep AVA clinicians safe, provide the best care and to improve the outcomes for patients.
The Association for Vascular Access (AVA) is working closely with federal public health officials to monitor the current Ebola situation both in the United States as well as globally. As the leaders in Vascular Access, AVA continues to provide updated resources as well as tools to protect health care providers from Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
AVA's membership consists of recognized experts in Vascular
Access and Patient Safety, who will be called upon to provide
Vascular Access services for patients with suspected and/or
confirmed EVD. The US Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) has released new guidance on the
appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment for healthcare
professionals. This and other new information has been posted to
the AVA website as a resource for Vascular Access clinicians
worldwide. Because all Ebola patients will require Vascular Access
therapy, it is critical that Vascular Access professionals receive
the necessary training, education, and ongoing administrative
support to properly protect clinicians from potential
exposure.

· Initiated the process of creating a clinical whitepaper summarizing current CDC guidance for healthcare providers and healthcare facility preparedness for EVD.
· Started developing a repository for Ebola resources for Vascular Access clinicians on the AVA Website
· Established the organization as a resource for media reporting on Ebola.

Scheduled continuing education webinars on the subject with
next one to be held, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2:00-3:00 PM
EDT.
