MIAMI, FL--(Marketwired - Nov 4, 2014) - Florida Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore Maria Lorts Sachs will deliver the Opening Keynote Address at the Florida Gaming Congress on Tuesday, November 11, and Mayor Tomás Regalado of the City of Miami will deliver the Luncheon Keynote Address.
Senator Sachs served for two terms in the Florida House of Representatives before being elected to the Florida Senate in 2010. She served as Senate Minority Whip in 2011 and currently serves as the Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore, and Vice Chair of the Senate Gaming Committee.
Mayor Regalado enjoyed a robust career in journalism before beginning his career in public service in 1996. He was elected Miami's 33rd Mayor in November 2009.
"The Florida Senate Gaming Committee -- under the leadership of Chair Garrett Richter and Vice Chair Maria Sachs -- offers a legislative model for other gaming committees across the nation. It tackles complex issues in a serious, bipartisan manner. Everyone associated with that committee -- from its members to its staff -- is knowledgeable and professional," Spectrum Managing Director Michael Pollock said. "We look forward to hearing from Senator Sachs as she discusses some of these critical issues, many of which clearly shape Florida's future."
Senator Steve Geller, partner at Presenting Sponsor Greenspoon Marder, added, "Mayor Regalado has been a very popular and effective leader. He has thus far not given full support or opposition to expanded gambling in the City of Miami, and has indicated that he needs to review specific plans before commenting. Regalado has indicated that he is prepared to consider the economic benefits of expansion, but is also concerned about protecting existing local businesses, and the existing neighborhoods and traffic patterns. The Florida Gaming Congress is the optimal venue for Mayor Regalado to share his thoughts and views on the future of gaming in the City of Miami."
The Florida Gaming Congress has been approved for 5.5 Continuing Legal Education Credits ("CLE") by The Florida Bar, underscoring its importance as a must-attend event for attorneys and all gaming-related professionals.
The two-day event begins on Monday, November 10, with an evening welcome reception. Tuesday delivers a full-day of in-depth seminars dedicated to presenting multiple viewpoints, along with several networking opportunities. The Florida Gaming Congress annually attracts an audience of more than 200, including corporate executives, gaming operators, elected officials, regulators, vendors, developers, investors and analysts, as well as a healthy media contingent.
Thirty experts with wide perspectives on the future of gaming in Florida are confirmed to speak at the event, participating in five insightful panels that will examine the critical issues facing Florida as it considers further gaming expansion:
- Gaming Outside of South Florida: The Right Move?
- South Florida Casinos: Status and Outlook
