COLUMBUS, Ohio and WOODBRIDGE, N.J., Nov. 13, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CoverMyMeds, the industry leader in medication prior authorizations, and iPatientCare, a cloud-based ambulatory EHR and integrated practice management solution, today announced a partnership to bring electronic prior authorization (ePA) functionality to the 7,800 providers on the iPatientCare platform. Simultaneously, iPatientCare also announced CoverMyMeds as one of the Gold sponsors at its 2014 National User Conference on November 14-16, 2014.
Many prescribed medications require Prior Authorization (PA), to obtain insurance company pre-approval for payment. Historically, the PA process takes the form of paper, faxes and phone calls between medical practices, pharmacies and insurance companies, an exceptionally cumbersome process for health care professionals. ePA automates and expedites the PA process, electronically connecting prescribers, health plans and pharmacies to ensure patients receive prescribed medications.
iPatientCare is the latest EHR system to partner with CoverMyMeds for ePA, a process that involves integrating CoverMyMeds' NCPDP standards-based API into the prescriber workflow within EHR systems. CoverMyMeds is free for providers, used by more than 260,000 prescribers nationwide, and works with more than 360 EHR systems, 45,000 pharmacy locations, and payers that represent 72% of US prescription volume.
"We're proud to add iPatientCare to our growing network of integrated EHRs," said Matt Scantland, Co-Founder of CoverMyMeds. "We strive to bring ePA solutions to healthcare professionals within their workflow, making it easier and faster for them to complete PAs and ensure their patients can lead healthier lives. An integration with iPatientCare will incorporate superior ePA functionality into their already robust technology platform."
iPatientCare is a pioneer in mHealth and cloud-based ambulatory EHR and integrated practice management solutions. In 2014, iPatientCare was named a top 50 EHR software company by Medical Economics. The company specializes in providing solutions for small-to-medium-sized practices and long-term care and military health facilities.
"This seamless integration with CoverMyMeds' ePA solution within iPatientCare EHR enables a fully automatic ePA process for providers at the point of prescribing. It also provides an easier and more efficient ePA solution that helps patients get their needed medication faster, and better adhere to their drug therapies," said Shripal Shah, Senior Technology Officer, iPatientCare. "We selected CoverMyMeds as an ideal partner to provide faster PA approval, eliminate paperwork and phone calls, lower Rx abandonment and provide an easy and free-to-use solution."
Pranav Patel, General Manager, iPatientCare added: "iPatientCare is glad to have CoverMyMeds as one of the Sponsors/Exhibitors at iPatientCare NUCON 2014 and showcasing its fully automated ePA process."
iPatientCare is scheduled to roll out ePA functionality during the first quarter of 2015.
