TULSA, Okla., Nov. 18, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Geoscientists Without Borders® (GWB) was honored as the winner of 2014 World Oil Award in the Best Outreach category.
Geoscientists Without Borders® is a humanitarian program that transforms lives in developing and vulnerable communities, while promoting the importance of geosciences beyond the realm of oil and gas. By design, each project must involve students. They are the heart of the program and the near-future industry leaders. To date the program has awarded 21 projects in 17 different countries.
"Geoscientists Without Borders® is a premier humanitarian program that benefits those far beyond the SEG, a truly global outreach project that has been rightfully recognized," said incoming SEG President Chris Liner.
"GWB projects are made possible through generous donations to the SEG Foundation. We need your help to reach more communities around the world!" said program manager Rhonda Jacobs, upon receiving this prestigious award. Mike Forrest, SEG Foundation Board Chair would agree in pointing out, "Geoscientists Without Borders (GWB) is an innovative humanitarian program with excellent growth potential- the SEG Foundation thanks our sponsors and World Oil for their 2014 Outreach Award."
"As a GWB project manager in West Africa, I have seen first had the impact that GWB can have. It is an honor to be here with Craig Beasley, who first conceived of GWB some 10 years ago, and representatives of two of our key donors, Schlumberger whose founding grant established GWB and PGS who has been a strong supporter for several years. As the incoming SEG President-Elect it was a real pleasure to be on hand to accept the award on behalf of SEG," said John Bradford.
Also nominated as finalists for Best Outreach Program were Aramco iExplore (Aramco), Energy, EMSI High-Octane Tech Fest (Weatherford), Environmentally Friendly Drilling Virtual Site (Houston Advanced Research Center), and Veteran's Resource Group (Baker Hughes Inc)
