SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 10, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GainSpan® Corporation, a leader in wireless connectivity solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), today announced that its GS2000 Wi-Fi® modules have been awarded several key Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ approvals by Wi-Fi Alliance. The family of low-power modules have been officially certified in these areas: Wi-Fi CERTIFIED b/g/n, WPA™ -Enterprise, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Enterprise, WPA2- Personal, and Wi-Fi Protected Setup™, as well as Wi-Fi CERTIFIED WMM® and WMM-Power Save.
The certifications recognize the modules' compliance with IEEE radio standards 802.11b/g/n, WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia™) quality-of-service (QoS) and Personal and Enterprise security programs. Wi-Fi Protected Setup ensures that devices and appliances using the GS2000M modules are easy to provision and can securely attach to Wi-Fi Protected Setup-certified Access Points (AP), which represent the majority of the installed base of APs. WMM-Power Save products increase battery life in small-form factor devices by enabling an advanced set of features for Wi-Fi networks – including improved signaling capabilities and fine-tuned power consumption – that increase the efficiency and flexibility of data transmission in order to conserve power.
"Receiving the Wi-Fi Alliance stamp of approval highlights GainSpan's continued commitment to bringing to market interoperable, standards-based products," said Bernard Aboussouan, vice president of marketing at GainSpan. "Certification of our cutting-edge GS2000M modules will accelerate time to market, minimize risk, and reduce costs for our customers in developing Wi-Fi enabled devices. And the power saving features will make it possible for consumers to more easily find wireless products with better battery life characteristics.
"In addition, before releasing any new version of software, GainSpan conducts numerous interoperability tests in the lab with a large set of Wi-Fi access points and smart phones that are available on market," he said.
GainSpan's GS2000 modules provide a quick, easy and cost-effective way for IoT developers to add Wi-Fi connectivity to their products. The modules are targeted at new markets such as high definition video/security cameras and audio applications such as remote speakers, as well as GainSpan's traditional markets in healthcare and fitness, smart energy and control/monitoring in commercial, industrial and residential markets.
The GS2000 family includes the GS2011M and the GS2100M. The modules are based on the company's GS2000, a dual mode Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and (802.15.4) SoC. The modules offer multi Mbps throughput (up to 40 Mbps throughput over an SDIO interface), low power consumption combined with fast wake up performance from idle state for the longest battery life for a Wi-Fi device. They also feature a highly integrated and extensive networking stack and services and ease of provisioning.
