SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 11, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Good Samaritan Hospital announced that it has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures ® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. The Top Performer distinction was based on 2013 performance improvements that increased the chance of healthy outcomes for patients treated for a heart attack, heart failure, or pneumonia, and those receiving surgical care.
To earn the Top Performer recognition, Good Samaritan had to achieve a cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all accountability measures.
"Good Samaritan's ongoing dedication to quality patient care and its focus on improving positive patient outcomes is the result of the hard work of our entire hospital team, including physicians, nurses, staff and volunteers," said Paul Beaupré, CEO at Good Samaritan. "Our team shares this Top Performer honor with the community at large, who rely on us to receive elite level care that is close to home."
This recognition is part of The Joint Commission's 2014 annual report "America's Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety."
"Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Good Samaritan Hospital for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions," said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and CEO, The Joint Commission.
