BERKELEY COLLEGE RANKED AMONG TOP 100 COLLEGES FOR ONLINE BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAMS BY U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT

One of Two Colleges in N.J. and One of Seven in N.Y. in the Top 100 Portion of the List

WOODLAND PARK, N.J., Jan. 7, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For the second consecutive year, Berkeley College has been ranked among the Best Colleges for Online Bachelor's Degree Programs by U.S. News & World Report. Berkeley College was ranked in the Top 100 schools nationwide, rising to No. 87 in online education.

"This recognition speaks to the effectiveness of the online education program offered at Berkeley College and the fact that it provides an accessible way for adult learners to achieve a college education," said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College. "Online education is increasingly important to employers seeking to support their workforces."

Berkeley College is one of two colleges in New Jersey, and one of seven colleges based in New York, to make the Top 100 portion of the list.

Colleges are ranked on assets such as student engagement; faculty credentials and training; and student services and technology. According to U.S. News & World Report, student engagement includes opportunities for students to interact with professors and fellow classmates in a campus-based setting, as well as an overall quality college experience that keeps students enrolled and on track to a degree.

"At Berkeley College, we offer students the latest technology and online course resources to enhance their learning experiences," said Carol Smith, Berkeley College Assistant Provost, Online. "We also offer students special Web-based interactions that contribute greatly to student engagement and student success."

Since Berkeley College first began offering distance learning courses in 1998 and accredited online degrees in 2003, the online program has flourished. In the 2014 Fall Quarter 2,718 Berkeley College students were enrolled in at least one online course and Berkeley College Online® offered 280 online courses. In addition to being ranked in the Online Bachelor's Degree Program category last year, the College also made the U.S. News & World Report list of 2014 Best Online Programs for Veterans.

In 2013, Berkeley College Online® was the first program in New York and New Jersey to receive certification for excellence from the United States Distance Learning Association Quality Standards (USDLA/QS). USDLA/QS certification places Berkeley College among an elite group of institutions worldwide that are recognized for excellence in distance learning.
