HoverCam Announces World's First Document Camera Combining Power of HDMI Connectivity with SuperSpeed USB 3.0

ORLANDO, Fla. and LONDON, Jan. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pathway Innovations and Technologies, Inc., maker of HoverCam document cameras, will unveil at BETT and FETC this week the world's first document camera with 8.0 MegaPixel resolution that outputs lag-free, uncompressed HD video with 4K resolution over HDMI and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 cables.

The BETT Show in London and Florida Education Technology Conference FETC are two leading education technology conferences that open tomorrow where the HoverCam Ultra 8 will be shown to the public.

Never before has there been an affordable document camera for schools that combines the clarity of 8MP resolution with the convenience and speed of direct plug into a large screen using an HDMI or VGA connector plus the power of connecting to the computer over SuperSpeed USB 3.0. Over HDMI, Ultra 8 displays and records 1080P video at 30 fps or 720P at 60fps.

"We have been the technology leader of USB document cameras since 2010," said Craig Justice, VP of Sales. "With Ultra 8, we have established HoverCam as the performance leader of HDMI document cameras at a price point attractive for education."

Ultra 8 is about one-quarter the size and weight of traditional document cameras – making it portable - and costs less. Instead of bulky and expensive optical components, Ultra 8 incorporates an 8MP sensor and HoverCam's patent pending Adaptive Sensor Resolution (ASR) zoom that allows the unit to zoom digitally without degradation. Ultra 8 also includes an LCD preview monitor that is also used to control the unit without buttons.

Ultra 8 will appeal to K-12, higher education and corporate users. For college lecture rooms, Ultra 8 incorporates RS232 allowing it to be controlled by leading control systems. There is an optional mount to secure the unit to a lectern.

For K-12 classrooms where the computer is the center of teaching, Ultra 8 can be connected to the computer allowing a teacher to use it to scan documents, take 8MP snapshots and to record no lag HD video at 1080p resolution directly to the computer, which is easy to share. For customers who don't want to use the computer, video, scans and photos may be saved to an included SD card.

Ultra 8 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, providing users with 30fps speed using minimal MJPEG compression. Ultra 8 is compatible with both Windows and Mac, with no drivers to install.

Ultra 8 comes pre-loaded with HoverCam's FlexView and FlexCap software allowing users to record no lag HD video, take snapshots, web conference, scan documents directly to PDF and annotate, even while recording video. It is compatible with leading interactive whiteboards.

Ultra 8 will begin shipping in Q2, 2015 and will be available through HoverCam's worldwide network of education resellers. For pricing and additional information, please contact the company at sales@thehovercam.com or www.thehovercam.com
