Morgan Drexen Launches Book Drive to Promote Literacy by Supplying Gently Used Books to Charities

Morgan Drexen Teams With "Re-Book It" to Give Old Books a New Life

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Following the old adage that a person who does not read is no better than a person who cannot read, Morgan Drexen Integrated Systems, a nationwide leader in legal administrative support services (http://morgandrexen.com), today announced a company-wide book drive in support of literacy and the availability of low cost books for those in need.

Morgan Drexen is teaming up with the non-profit group Re-Book It, an organization headquartered in Los Angeles, that works to prevent used books from ending up in landfills, by collecting the books that people have already read, and using those books to either donate or to raise funds for schools, libraries, charities, and hospitals.

Nearly 200 employees will compete floor by floor at Morgan Drexen's company headquarters in Costa Mesa, California to see which department can claim bragging rights for donating the greatest number of books.

"This is a win-win for everyone," said Morgan Drexen CEO, Walter Ledda. "We all have books that we previously read, or intended to read, and now may be gathering dust on a bookshelf or are in boxes in the garage. Chances are that we feel guilty about throwing them away, so we just keep storing them around the house – well now we can give the books a new life and put them in the hands of those who need them."

"I personally think this is also a great way to help children," said company CFO, David Walker. "Most people absolutely hate to throw away children's books. The problem is that after our kids have grown up their books are usually packed up and put into storage. This is a great way to have those books make it into the hands of children whose parents can not afford to buy them."

Re-Book It works to give donated books a new life by giving them to local charities such as Friends of the Library, homeless shelters, hospitals, and schools. Re-Book It also gives books to a bookstore called 'The Last Bookstore' which sells the books at a very low cost, and raises money to be donated.

"Every company should have a book drive once every year or two – just imagine the number of books that would make it into the hands of those who are less fortunate," added Mr. Ledda.
