BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Mar 11, 2015) - Ramp, the leading provider of next-generation video and search experiences for media, marketing and enterprises, announced today the availability of the MetaPlayer 4 video player, delivering enhanced audio and video experiences for its media and enterprise customers.
Ramp MetaPlayer 4 has a refreshing new user interface and many advanced performance improvements including: accessibility compliance, localization, HTML5 advertising support, updated load workflows, Live webcasting and new DVR capabilities for Ramp enterprise customers. Customers will also benefit from new mobile and social capabilities that extend the functionality of the new video player.
"Based on specific customer requests, we assembled an extensive list of enhancements for MetaPlayer 4 focused on our core goals of ensuring improved video functionality, performance and experiences," said Tom Wilde, CEO of Ramp. "The demand for mobile video is exploding and variable screen size was a key driver of the MetaPlayer 4 design. In addition, users want to push content to social networks and this new version of the player makes it easier than ever to share videos with various platforms."
New Features - Ramp MetaPlayer 4:
Performance Improvements - These improvements ensure that the player loads as quickly as possible onto a page. For example, Ramp replaced all images in the player with font assets, decreasing load time significantly.
Retina Display Support - MetaPlayer 4 user interface elements are scalable vector graphics (SVG), which are smaller and scalable without quality loss; this means that the player will display beautifully on all screen resolutions from mobile to 4k displays. This also makes the player easily customizable and "skinnable" to match a user's branding through simple CSS changes.
Improved Video Seek - Seeking through the video timeline is now easier than ever. Click and drag the timeline to activate thumbnail filmstrip-images that display for users what's happening at a moment in the video ahead of time.
Social Sharing Extensions - The new player adds Pinterest to the list of default sharing options and supports improved handling of thumbnails in social posts. In addition, the player now offers an extensible framework allowing customers to add any new social network to the player.
Closed Caption (CC) Configuration - In an effort to increase accessibility options for MetaPlayer users, the closed caption configuration menu is now fully responsive on mobile devices.
Video in Context - Using Ramp's MetaQ matching engine, related content, commerce, and advertising can all be synchronized to the video timeline.
Improved Mobile Support - Thanks to the player's updated responsive structure, the mobile viewer experience will not suffer from tiny screens. Menu icons rearrange automatically, font sizes decrease to save real estate for the content, and hover functionality is elegantly accounted for through touch events.
Ramp for SharePoint: Live Video Capabilities - The Ramp Video Live offering is getting a face-lift with MetaPlayer 4. The new player supports responsive, sleek player controls and enables enterprise users to toggle video from live to video on-demand and to display a viewer count for a live event. Ramp MetaPlayer 4 also supports Ramp Video Live's innovative live DVR feature, which allows viewers to pause, rewind and replay live webcasts.
Security and Authentication - Ramp supports integrated authentication with MetaPlayer 4. MetaPlayer 4 can connect with a third party authentication scheme once configured, and Ramp supports token security to limit access to data stored within the Ramp system, served by Ramp APIs, and/or Ramp-hosted HTML pages.
Localization and Accessibility Support - Full support for CVAA accessibility requirements as well as level A WCAG standard for web accessibility and Section 508 compliance including: compatibility with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation support, and encoded tags for selector identification. MetaPlayer 4 is localized to have multi-language support. With localization, all static text on the player will dynamically change from English (default) to whatever language is passed into the player as a parameter. Also, MetaPlayer 4 will support up to 27 different languages.
State of the Art Usability with Partners - MetaPlayer integrates the popular Mozilla Popcorn library, is compatible with virtually any HTML5 video player, and has specific support for Brightcove, thePlatform, YouTube, FlowPlayer, JWPlayer, and many others. The Ramp MetaPlayer framework is also extremely flexible and wraps around and extends virtually any third-party player to include Ramp's rich video transcription, tagging and context-sensitive advertising capabilities.
