NEW YORK, NY and PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwired - Mar 24, 2015) - Hearst Health, a division of Hearst Corporation, and the Jefferson School of Population Health of Thomas Jefferson University, today announced the creation of the annual Hearst Health Prize, a $100,000 cash award given in recognition of an organization's or individual's outstanding achievement in managing or improving wellness.
The announcement was made at the fifteenth annual Population Health Colloquium in Philadelphia by Gregory Dorn, MD, president of Hearst Health, and David B. Nash, MD, MBA, dean of the Jefferson School of Population Health. The call for submissions will open in the summer of 2015, and the inaugural winner of the $100,000 award will be announced at the 2016 Population Health Colloquium.
"We are committed to supporting initiatives, organizations, and innovations to advance better health outcomes, improved patient care and greater health access worldwide," Dorn said. "We established the Hearst Health Prize to create more visibility for breakthrough achievements in population health and share these insights with other healthcare professionals globally."

As the administrator of the Hearst Health Prize, the Jefferson School of Population Health will assemble an interdisciplinary panel of judges. The Jefferson School is currently seeking nominations for members of the judging panel, as well as expressions of interest or nominations for Hearst Health Prize entrants. Entries are open to organizations, individuals or institutions who have demonstrated proven outcomes in managing or improving the health of a population through pioneering programs that may incorporate areas such as technology, care delivery, processes, care guidance and more.
