Lubrizol: Leading Trends in TGDI Engine Oils
Shanghai, March 26, 2015 - The Lubrizol Corporation, a leading global supplier of lubricant additives, shared its latest findings on turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engine oils at the TGDI Technology Forum 2015, organized by the Automotive Technology Conference. While identifying the strong prospects for TGDI technology in China, Lubrizol also made predictions for future trends in TGDI engine oils.
These developments are driven primarily by the global energy crisis, which has led engine designers to focus on advances in efficiency and low-carbon technology. The TGDI engine is recognized as one of the most promising systems available to address these demands due to its power and high fuel efficiency. In a keynote speech at the forum, Dr. Yuri Liu, technology manager for Engine Oils, discussed the challenges and opportunities for TGDI engine oils and presented Lubrizol's innovative solutions.
"TGDI technology will continue to drive changes across the automotive industry, from engines to lubricants, realizing both greater power generation and better fuel efficiency," says Dr. Liu. "Traditional lubricants, however, are unable to sufficiently protect TGDI engines in the increasingly harsh conditions they are used under, and this poses a new challenge for the industry." In response, Lubrizol is working with several China OEMs on extensive R&D, testing and field trials of lubricants that balance the need to protect engine durability with the demand for improved in fuel efficiency.
The Chinese government has set nationwide targets for passenger car fuel economy at 6.9L/100km in 2015 and 5.0L/100km by 2020. The performance of TGDI engine technology and its vast room for growth in China suggest a promising market for lubricants designed for these engines. Achieving greater fuel efficiency without compromising durability will be the key to future progress for the lubricant industry.
About the TGDI Technology Forum 2015
