LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 8, 2015) - UCLA Extension will host its 4th Annual TEDxUCLA on Saturday, May 30 at UCLA Carnesale Commons from 10am to 3pm. This year's TEDxUCLA theme, "Beyond the Box," celebrates speakers who have made careers out of seeing past conventional limitations.
TEDxUCLA "Beyond the Box" will feature talks by visionaries including: Andy Lipkis, founder and president of TreePeople, who will be talking about sustainability and inspiring, engaging and activating Los Angeles -- its people, businesses, government, and nature -- in rapidly becoming a climate-resilient and sustainable city; real-life psychologist Andrea Letamendi, aka "Batgirl's psychologist," who counsels Batgirl in the pages of comic books; and Duff Goldman, a pastry chef who hires artists to create edible art. See full program at www.tedxucla.org.
"We're hoping this year's TEDxUCLA event will inspire attendees to think beyond the 'box' of accepted limitations," said Scott Hutchinson, TEDx Organizer and Director of Visual Arts at UCLA Extension. "This year's speakers are people who have charted their own course, using original thinking to go beyond established conventions."
Additional speakers at TEDxUCLA will include:
- Neil Garg (Professor and Vice Chair, UCLA Chemistry and Biochemistry Department): "Technology's Impact on the Student Experience"
- Don Vaughn (PhD in neuroscience at UCLA, DJ and drummer): "Electronic Music is the New Rock & Roll"
- Kent Wada (UCLA Chief Privacy Officer & Director of Strategic IT Policy): "Big Data: Governing the Space Between Law and Ickiness"

- Kamil Fields (UCLA Undergraduate): Spoken word
The event is hosted by UCLA Extension's Visual Arts Department and UCLA Residential Life.

This popular annual event sells out quickly, as seats are limited. Select behind-the-scenes campus tours will be held at 4pm for registered attendees. Tours are on a first-come, first served basis.
ABOUT TEDxUCLA
In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. #TEDxUCLA
