Orange County (NC) Visitors Bureau Produces Guide for People with Disabilities

Guide Produced as Americans with Disabilities Act Celebrates 25th Anniversary


CHAPEL HILL, N.C., April 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the historic passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a North Carolina Visitors Bureau has produced The 2015-2016 Chapel Hill/Orange County Access Guide to provide information for people with disabilities to more easily access services in Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina as well as the surrounding communities.

"We produced this guide to showcase our destination's amenities that help people with disabilities, a growing segment of the population," said Laurie Paolicelli, Director of the Visitors Bureau. Paolicelli said disability rights are featured in the new National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The new Access Guide, which is also available on-line, will be distributed through area visitor centers and hotels; as well as select facilities throughout Orange County, NC. Producers of the guide include Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau; and Valarie Schwartz, a writer and columnist and Ellen Perry, a longtime disability rights activist born with cerebral palsy, who moved to the area while still mobile and taught her adopted town about accessibility as her needs for it increased.
