Two Giants of Broadcast Journalism to Receive Lifetime Achievement Awards

Lloyd Robertson and Linden MacIntyre to be honoured by RTDNA Canada-the Association of Electronic Journalists

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 28, 2015) - Ian Koenigsfest, President of RTDNA Canada, today announced the organization will present Lifetime Achievement Awards to two of Canada's most respected and well-known broadcast journalists - Lloyd Robertson and Linden MacIntyre. The awards will be presented at a gala event during the RTDNA's National Conference in Toronto, June 5 and 6, 2015.

According to Koenigsfest, "RTDNA Canada is enormously proud to be able to present the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award to two industry giants. Lloyd and Linden have engraved their names in the playbook of Canadian journalism and epitomize everything our association and craft strives for. They have set the bar extremely high and we offer our gratitude for their contribution."

Lloyd Robertson spent 35 years as Chief Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV National News. One of the most accomplished journalists in North America, Robertson has been broadcasting for more than 60 years. He joined CTV in 1976, and held the title of CTV's Chief Anchor and Senior Editor starting in 1983. He retired from that role in 2011 to become Host and Chief Correspondent of CTV's W5.

Robertson began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS radio in his hometown of Stratford and then joined CJOY in Guelph in 1953. After moving into television in 1954 with CBC in Windsor, Robertson spent four years in Winnipeg and two years in Ottawa. He went on to anchor CBC's national news from 1970 to 1976.In 1998, Robertson became a Member of the Order of Canada, and in 2007, was the first journalist inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame.

Wendy Freeman, President of CTV News, applauds RTDNA's choice of Robertson for a Lifetime Achievement Award. "Having spent decades as Canada's source for news night after night, and awarded the titles of 'Best', 'Favourite', and 'Most Trusted' multiple times, we at CTV News are thrilled to see Lloyd receive this recognition from his peers. From covering a young Terry Fox's journey across Canada, to the tumultuous events of 9/11, and still today in his role as Host and Chief Correspondent for W5, viewers have turned to Lloyd to frame events through a lens of analysis and objectivity, and to bring reassurance in the face of incredible human tragedy and crisis. His ability to tell the story no matter the difficulty is a gift we have all received. Congratulations to RTDNA on their choice to honour Lloyd for his lifetime of achievements."

Linden MacIntyre began his journalism career as a print reporter in Nova Scotia in 1964. He joined CBC Television in Halifax in 1976. Between1981-86, MacIntyre worked for CBC's ground-breaking national current affairs program, The Journal, and was assigned to documentary reporting in various parts of the world, including the Middle East, Central America and the USSR.

For two seasons, he was host and national editor for Sunday Morning on CBC Radio; then in 1988, MacIntyre returned to television and The Journal. In 1990 he became co-host of the fifth estate, CBC Television's investigative program. His intelligent brand of journalism has been marked by thoughtfulness and clarity, but also by a probing, analytical rigour and Linden's willingness to state hard truths, name names, and hold the accountable to account. After three decades at the CBC, MacIntyre has decided to step aside to make room for others coming up through the ranks at the fifth estate.

Jennifer McGuire, CBC'S General Manager and Editor in Chief says "During his long career at the CBC, Linden McIntyre embodied the finest qualities of public broadcast journalism: integrity, compassion and an unstoppable drive to get at the truth. Linden understood and mastered the power of a story well told and never forgot whom he was serving - the Canadian public. I am so thrilled that the RTDNA has chosen to honour Linden McIntyre with their Lifetime Achievement Award. Bravo!"
