Daniel J. Hilferty shares insight on organization's Human-Centered InnovationSM
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Independence Blue Cross (Independence) President and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty spoke on a panel yesterday at the annual Milken Institute Global Conference, a three-day event that brings together the world's most influential industry leaders to explore solutions to the most pressing challenges in financial markets, health, government, and education.
As part of the "Breakthrough Medicine: Will Finding a Cure Be Just the Start of Saving Lives?" panel, Hilferty highlighted the ways that Independence is harnessing technology and data to revolutionize health care through Human-Centered InnovationSM.
Hilferty pointed out that Human-Centered InnovationSM at Independence inspires the organization's collaborations with medical researchers and health care startups to imagine, create, and support the most promising technologies for making people healthier. For example, he said that Independence has joined forces with a leading research team from the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia's Fox Chase Cancer Center that is working to gather the evidence needed to make genomic testing part of mainstream cancer treatment.
Hilferty was joined on the panel by moderator, Dr. Louise Perkins, chief science officer at the Melanoma Research Alliance, and distinguished experts:
- Dr. Wyatt W. Decker, VP, Mayo Clinic; CEO, Mayo Clinic Arizona
- Jill DeSimone, SVP, U.S. Oncology Commercial Unit, Merck
- Dr. Omid Hamid, director, Melanoma Center, and chief, Translational Research and Immune-Oncology, the Angeles Clinic and Research Institute
- Dr. Jennifer Malin, medical director, Enterprise Oncology Solutions and Innovation, Anthem, Inc.; associate professor, UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine
The Milken Institute Global Conference is hosted by the Milken Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank based in Santa Monica, California.
