ST. PAUL, MN--(Marketwired - May 7, 2015) - HealthEast Care System is pleased to announce that Brian Amdahl, MD, has been named as Executive Medical Director, VP for Post-Acute Services. This medical leadership role includes oversight for Bethesda Hospital (one of only two long-term, acute care specialty hospitals in Minnesota), Home Care, Hospice, Community Care Management, Medical Care for Seniors and Community Outreach.
In this role, Dr. Amdahl will partner with local referral hospital physicians to ensure timely and smooth patient transitions. He will also work to develop clinical protocols that best support patients' needs. These efforts will support HealthEast's Post-Acute Services focus on strengthening community relationships and growing business opportunities which benefit the East Metro area of St. Paul.
As a pulmonologist who has been serving the needs of Twin Cities' patients for the last 21 years, Dr. Amdahl knows the system's programs well and has a passion and calling for working with the most medically complex patients. He, along with a talented interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses and therapists who care for this unique patient population, is responsible for developing Bethesda Hospital's award-winning ventilator weaning pathway. He has also managed its hospitalist team (a group of physicians who specialize in the care of patients while they are hospitalized).
Dr. Amdahl will have a direct reporting relationship to Kevin Garrett, MD, Vice President and Executive Medical Director, Ambulatory and Community Services, and a dotted-line relationship to Cathy Barr, SVP, Ambulatory and Community Services and President, Bethesda Hospital.
