ALBANY, N.Y., May 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The weather was perfect Thursday evening for the thousands of runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators who converged on downtown Albany for a whole lot of fun and a bit of friendly competition at the CDPHP® Workforce Team Challenge.
This is the sixth year that CDPHP has served as the title sponsor of the 3.5-mile road race, which had a record 10,237 people sign up. They represented more than 500 companies and organizations from throughout the Capital Region.
The top male runner, Kieran O'Connor, of Tyler Technologies, Inc., finished the race in 17:02. This was his first time running in the Challenge. The top female runner, Karen Bertasso, of Albany Medical Center, finished the race in 20:22.
The event is organized by, and serves as the major fundraiser for, the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC). The funds raised help underwrite many of HMRRC's activities and services, including college scholarships, grants, running clinics, and the Just Run® Program, which encourages grade school children to run for exercise and fun.
In addition, three charities benefited from this year's race: The Brave Will Foundation, CEO, and
The Food Pantries for the Capital District. Preliminary numbers show that thousands of dollars were donated to the charities this year. The final amount is still being tallied.
