NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 1, 2015) - ELLE and American Women, an affiliated research organization of EMILY's List, today announced that they are teaming up periodically to take the temperature of both sexes on critical issues facing our nation in what promises to be a very hot -- and long! -- election season. In the lead up to the 2016 presidential election, ELLE will publish a series of trend reports over the next year and a half developed in partnership with American Women. The reports will be informed by American Women's extensive research and polling of women and men across the country.
The initial report, running in the June issue of ELLE, focuses on economic security for women and families, wage equality and why women, in particular, need to be talking about money now. Women of all ages, education, and income levels report money as a top worry, and 40 percent of women in this country are the primary breadwinners. So, it is time to go beyond talking about the glass ceiling, and discuss one of the key roadblocks women are facing in America today: the green ceiling. Money and economic security affects every area of women and men's lives from health to education, and as the results showed, men and women have different views on what is really going on.
"American Women is thrilled to partner with ELLE to amplify the voices of women -- and men -- across the country. There's no question that economic concerns continue to dominate the discussion from the boardroom to the living room to the break room," said Stephanie Schriock, president of American Women. "We are excited to join together to lead these conversations that impact women across the country."
"We're looking forward to working with American Women to uncover, interpret, and explore the key issues weighing on the minds of women and men as we enter election season, which seems to be upon us already," said Robbie Myers, editor-in-chief of ELLE. "Engaging in meaningful partnerships that facilitate a genuine conversation about ideas -- those things that women really need to talk about -- is such an important part of what we do at ELLE."
Highlights from the survey include:
