August is Month for Most Car Accidents, Warns Shadowood Chiropractic Center

BOCA RATON, Fla., July 5, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Boca Raton chiropractor Dr. Allan DellaBella is warning auto accident victims about the dangers of untreated car accident injuries. August is the most common month for auto accidents in Florida, where more than 200,000 crashes occur each year according to the Florida DMV. Car crashes commonly cause back and neck injuries and tissue damage can occur even in parts of the body where there are no visible signs of an injury. Dr. DellaBella is encouraging accident victims to schedule an immediate diagnostic exam following the accident rather than waiting to see if pain develops.

Summer is the most common season for car accident injuries with the majority of accidents happening in August, according to Florida's DMV website. In 2009, a total of 197,214 injuries and 2,563 fatalities occurred as the result of car crashes. But these numbers only tell half the story, says Dr. Allan DellaBella, the founder and owner of Shadowood Chiropractic Center.

"Thousands of Florida residents sustain serious musculoskeletal injuries each year after a car accident," said Dr. DellaBella. "Unfortunately, many of these accident victims don't realize that they've suffered an injury until weeks or even months after the original accident took place. The earlier an accident receives a diagnostic exam, the sooner we are able to diagnose the precise injury and take steps to effectively treat it."

Whiplash is the most common musculoskeletal injury following an auto accident. Whiplash injuries occur when the force of a rear impact accident, like a fender bender, whips the cervical spine beyond its normal range of motion.

"Serious whiplash injuries can occur at speeds as slow as 5mph," said Dr. DellaBella. "Without effective treatment, the stiffness and disability caused by a whiplash injury can last for months or even years. I recommend chiropractic adjustments for patients who are affected by whiplash injuries. Adjustments help relieve pain by restoring correct alignment to the cervical spine, which also helps bring back a natural range of motion to the body."

Dr. DellaBella recommends that all accident victims visit a chiropractor after a car accident even if they are not experiencing immediate pain symptoms. This is because it can be days, weeks or even months before the onset of pain. Earlier treatment can help to alleviate or even prevent this pain, says the chiropractor.

In addition to treating patients for car accident injuries, Dr. DellaBella also provides expert witness testimony in court on behalf of accident victims. The chiropractor has more than 25 years of experience as an expert witness.

"Even if the accident is only a 'minor' fender bender, it's always better to receive a full diagnostic exam in case pain develops," said Dr. DellaBella. "This exam can be used to ensure insurance companies pay the maximum treatment benefit."
