PulsePro Enhancements Ensure Practices Are Prepared for ICD-10 Transition

New Features Make it Easier for Users to Adapt to Changes in Documentation

WICHITA, Kan., July 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pulse Systems, Inc., an industry-leading provider of Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management, e-prescribing, Billing and Collections, and other Revenue Cycle Management solutions, recently enhanced its practice management solution, PulsePro, to help health care providers prepare for the upcoming ICD-10 transition on Oct. 1, 2015. These enhancements enable providers to easily search for and enter new ICD-10 codes into their patients' medical records which can then be used for insurance authorizations, referrals to other providers and ordering other medical procedures.

"The implementation of ICD-10 is a significant undertaking for even the most prepared practices," said Jeff Burton, Chief Executive Officer and President of Pulse Systems, Inc. "Through these enhancements to our highly acclaimed practice management system, we are making it easier for our clients to meet new documentation standards and ensure a smooth transition so they can focus on patient care."

Some of the new enhancements to PulsePro include:

  • Development of General Equivalence Maps (GEMS) between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM
  • Tools that allow users to begin simultaneously coding in ICD-9 and ICD-10 before the Oct. 1, deadline
  • Insurance rules that assist clients in determining whether to send ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes
  • Enhanced search engine capabilities to simplify the process of searching for codes and help manage complex rules and terminology
  • Checks in place to prevent users from selecting unbillable/unspecified ICD-10 codes
  • Capabilities to create user favorite lists of the most commonly used codes based on practice history, medical specialty, user preference, etc.

Based on industry feedback, Pulse anticipates that some insurance carriers or laboratories may opt out of receiving ICD-10 codes after the deadline. To accommodate these changes, PulsePro allows providers to continue to use ICD-9 codes when necessary.

"We have worked hard to ensure our clients have the tools they need to adapt in our constantly evolving health care environment," Burton said. "The new ICD-10 functionality can be turned on and off when needed, depending on a patient's insurance provider or particular laboratory."
