SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 22, 2015) - LightPointe, the leading manufacturer of wireless outdoor point to point radios and laser bridges, has published a White Paper, Advantages of the 60 GHz Frequency Band and New 60 GHz Radios. LightPointe details the history of 60 GHz radio spectrum use, and how point to point radios deployed in the frequency band are ideal for building to building connectivity and telecom carrier applications, such as 4G and 5G networks. Since 60 GHz is license free throughout most of the world, it is ideal for businesses, schools, and other enterprises -- which have multiple facilities or campuses to connect -- to obtain high speed Gigabit capacity without incurring the high cost of paying for leased lines, or trenching for fiber. LightPointe's 60 GHz White Paper is available for download on its website, www.LightPointe.com.
"Since operation in the 60 GHz is license free in many countries -- and our new radios can reach new long distance milestones in the V-band frequency spectrum -- 60 GHz solutions can be deployed in applications which previously required expensive leased fiber lines, or required costly backhaul radios in the licensed frequencies," said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of LightPointe. "Although deployment of 60 GHz radios has taken off in recent years, we found that customers yearned for lower cost, longer distance capability, and more versatile antenna options enabling both an aesthetically pleasing small footprint design and high transmit power. The 60 GHz band opens up new opportunities for our distributors and resellers, especially in countries where it is prohibitory expensive -- due to regulatory agency fees -- to widely deploy other backhaul solutions such as 70/80 GHz E-Band radios. In many countries our high gain and license free AireLink 60 GHz wireless solutions are a much more robust and reliable option than other millimeter wave solutions, saving thousands in initial and recurring annual costs. Our new White Paper provides an overview of the history of 60 GHz spectrum, and the latest technologies for deploying radios in the frequency band."
The more general use of the 60-GHz (V-Band) radio technology for high capacity wireless backhaul goes back to 2001, when the US regulator (FCC) adopted rules for unlicensed operations in the 57 to 64 GHz band for commercial and public use. This very wide frequency band, with over a 7-GHz of continuous spectrum, makes the band very desirable for applications requiring high transmission bandwidth. Applications include indoor and outdoor point-to-point (P2P) fixed wireless bridging/backhaul. LightPointe's White Paper reviews technical issues and the 60 GHz regulatory background. In addition, an overview of the new LightPointe AireLink 60 system is provided.
