Twin Cities Multi-Modal Artists Sketch Bemidji to Brainerd by Bike and Bus

BEMIDJI, MN and BRAINERD, MN--(Marketwired - July 23, 2015) - Jefferson Lines is excited to once again sponsor two artists from the Twin Cities on another multi-modal adventure, this time to Bemidji/Brainerd on July 26 - August 1. Ken and Roberta Avidor are talented drawing and watercolor artists who live in St. Paul, MN and love to travel and sketch. "When we travel by bus or train, we enjoy the journey as much as the destination," states Ken Avidor. "And riding bikes allows us to more easily spot good sketching locations."

Ken and Roberta are very active in the St. Paul biking community and live car-free in Union Depot, the multi-modal transportation center where Jefferson Lines has one of its nine company owned depots. Their artwork has been featured in many arenas -- from t-shirts for bicycling tours to the St. Paul Saints opening day Hometown Hanky! This upcoming trip to Bemidji/Brainerd will be similar to their trip to Sioux Falls, SD in June and their trip to Pipestone, MN last fall and is a continuation of their adventures with Jefferson Lines.

To get to Bemidji, Ken and Roberta will take Jefferson Lines' "Paul Bunyan" route from Minneapolis to Bemidji. They will unload their Brompton folding bikes in Bemidji, then bicycle down the Paul Bunyan Trail to Brainerd, where they will hop back on Jefferson Lines to the Twin Cities. In Bemidji, the Avidors are staying at Country Inn and Suites, right on Lake Bemidji. You can catch them around town as they sketch Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, dine at Sparkling Waters Restaurant, and take in trivia at Brigid's Cross Pub. Ken and Roberta will also be interviewed on KB101 radio on July 27, the official radio sponsor for this trip.

The next stop on their trip is Embracing Pines Bed and Breakfast in Walker, where they will sketch some of the amazing wildlife on the Kabekona River. After Walker, Ken and Roberta bicycle on to Hackensack where they will stay at the Owl's Nest Motel and sing karaoke at the Birchwood Char House. Next, the Avidors visit Nisswa, staying at the Nisswa Motel and breakfasting at Adirondack Coffee. Last but not least, Ken and Roberta will stay at the Whitely Creek Bed and Breakfast and sketch the chickens and garden. Lodging and dining were all donated by the local businesses. Their support is much appreciated.

The purpose behind these trips is not only to showcase a particular Jefferson Lines location, but also more generally to raise awareness about multi-modal transportation options to the many destinations that Jefferson Lines serves. "Jefferson Lines supports Ken and Roberta's excursions to show people how traveling without a car can be enjoyable," explained Becky Alper, Community Awareness Specialist. "These excursions highlight locations which our bus travels to but many people don't know about, such as last year's trip to Pipestone." Moreover, according to the American Bus Association, motorcoach travel is the cleanest transportation mode, offering better fuel efficiency than intercity rail or domestic air travel. Ken and Roberta's excursions show that being green can also be fun and easy.
