August 19th marks World Photography Day, which was first launched in 2009, with the goal to unite local and global communities in a worldwide celebration of photography. Whether you are a pro or just a casual photographer, World Photo Day is a great opportunity to celebrate one of the world's most pervasive, accessible and democratic art forms.
London Drugs Photolab is excited to once again be celebrating World Photo Day this year, both in-stores and online. Select locations throughout BC and Alberta will be offering a series of free workshops devoted to tips, themes and new products that are sure to help photographers of all skill and experience levels improve their craft. Another great way to participate is to grab your camera and shoot, shoot, shoot - and upload your best shots to the World Photo Day gallery online. The online gallery is an absolute must-see for any true photography lover, as the images photographers have posted are as brilliant and amazing as you'll see anywhere. Be sure to check out all the galleries from previous years as well.
To begin sharing your photos worldwide for World Photo Day, simply register on the World Photography Day site or log in with your Facebook account to get started. The gallery is only open for upload from Aug 19-25. Here are their tips for photo submissions:
- Only upload 1 (one) photograph to the gallery
- Choose carefully as your entry cannot be changed after submission
- Your photo must be a minimum of 1800 x 1800 pixels (3.2 megapixels)
- Your high resolution image isn't made publically accessible
- Share your story - Your photograph is more powerful with a story
- Fill in your profile - People want to relate with more than a picture
- No Watermarks - If you have a watermark on your image you will not be considered for our photobook
- You are encouraged to capture your image between Aug 19-25 but will accept a photograph captured earlier in the year
