BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Aug. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Chief Keef's double album Bang 3 is available for pre-order today on iTunes. FilmOn Music and its digital distribution company MondoTunes announced today that the full album will be released in both digital and brick and mortar stores September 18. The first 14 tracks were "leaked" August 4 as Bang 3 Part 1, and pre-ordering the next 12 tracks of Part 2 is the only way to get the new track, "Bouncin."
The early release of the first half of the double album instantly drove Bang 3 to iTunes' number 4 spot for all genres, ahead of Taylor Swift, and to the number 2 spot for hip hop albums. iTunes selected Chief Keef as a featured artist on its curated hip hop home page and "Superheroes" featuring A$AP Rocky made Spotify's "Most Necessary" playlist.
The successful surge was engineered with the support of Greek billionaire and FilmOn CEO Alki David's companies, including advertising across the biggest streaming TV network in the world FilmOn.com, social influencer marketing via Class 15, and the timeliness of a charitable effort using Hologram USA's technology that had Chief Keef dominating the national news for weeks. (Chief Keef has essentially been banned from his hometown of Chicago by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, in a truly alarming case of government censorship. In response, Chief Keef and Alki David are creating a multi-city, all-star, hologram hip hop concert for peace.) The release strategy for Bang 3 even received praise from Forbes.com.
Keef is the first major artist to sign with David's FilmOn Music and Bang 3 is the first part of a $2.5 million two-album deal. He is also the first major artist to release via David's newly purchased company MondoTunes, the independent digital music distributor with the most global reach.
The first part of Bang 3 included the single "Ain't Missing You," a heart wrenching and very radio friendly cover of the 1980's John Waite hit redone as a tribute to Keef's murdered cousin Big Glo. The early tracks also included the features by A$AP Rocky and Mac Miller, and beats produced by Zaytoven and Chopsquad DJ of Young Chop's production team. The twelve tracks from the second half of Bang 3 include more produced by Zaytoven and a long awaited collaboration with Lil B.
Pitchfork called the first half of Bang 3, "the work of a mature rapper and songwriter, putting the skills he developed over several years spent branching out stylistically to good use" The Boombox wrote, "he's never sounded more genuine than now," and HipHopDX called it the album a win for Sosa fans that is "a reminder of everything Keef has been and everything he can be." Fans online have called for a Bang 3 Grammy.
Concert dates, including the multi-city peace concert produced by Alki David's Hologram USA, will be announced soon.
