MORRISTOWN, N.J., Aug. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Louis Berger's support of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) was recently recognized with a Preservation Commendation Award at the 2015 Historic Hawai'i Foundation's Preservation Honor Awards ceremony in Honolulu.
The Historic Hawai'i Foundation, a statewide non-profit organization that encourages the preservation of historic buildings, sites, communities and objects relating to the history of Hawai'i, honors exemplary achievement in the field of historic preservation and recognizes projects that support the state's architectural and cultural heritage. Louis Berger received the award for a history of the Pearl Harbor basin area spanning the pre-Contact era through the end of the Cold War. The report was completed in collaboration with NAVFAC Hawai'i's Historic Preservation Division (EV5) section, which supports the Navy's work in preserving natural and culturally significant resources, and WCP Inc., a service planning and environmental consulting firm.

Louis Berger's team of experts consolidated historic research, overview surveys, historic mapping and photography into a single report that provides a comprehensive historical overview of the Navy's historic properties and resources in the area. Entitled "The Navy Region Pearl Harbor Naval Complex Historic Context Report," the history will be used to inform NAVFAC's facility planning and management of the Navy's historic sites at Pearl Harbor.
The Historic Hawai'i Foundation Preservation Honor Awards are the state's highest recognition of projects, organizations, publications or individuals active in preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, or interpretation of the state's archaeological, architectural, and cultural sites. A harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Pearl Harbor has been home to a United States Navy base since 1899 and currently headquarters the United States Pacific Fleet.
