Seattle, Aug. 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VRstudios™ announced today that its entertainment and gaming division, VRcade®, will be demonstrating its wireless, multiplayer, full-motion virtual reality system at the VRLA Expo at the LA Convention Center on August 29th.
Using custom, wireless, virtual reality head mounted displays and an array of motion capture cameras, the VRcade system allows multiple users to freely move around a large physical space. This will be the first time that VRcade will publicly demonstrate multiple users operating and interacting simultaneously in the same virtual environment.
"We are excited to add multiplayer capabilities to our entertainment deployments," said Jamie Kelly, VRstudios' President. "Now, even in small systems, proprietors can enable higher throughput allowing players to experience a unique, out-of-home virtual reality cooperation and competition."
Attendees will be able to move around a 30ft by 30ft physical space and face off against other players in a heated gunslinger competition. Players will experience a recently developed prototype for a Wild West themed game set to launch in public installations later this year, called Barking Irons©.
In the "Duel" game mode, players face off in a classic gunslinger duel. While only positioned a few feet apart in the real world, each player will see each other as much farther apart in the virtual environment, enabling multi-player gaming in small VRcade deployments. Players holster their weapons in a ready position until they hear "DRAW!" and then quickly draw their guns and shoot their opponent before their opponent shoots them.
In the "Barrels" game mode, players compete by shooting barrels which appear throughout the Western environment. Barrels pop up like targets and players must rely on quick reflexes to find and shoot the barrels before the other player.
VRcade will also have its flagship single player title, Time Zombies©, available at the event. Time Zombies is currently installed at VRcade's pilot installation at Dave and Buster's in Milpitas, CA.
"We are eager to get as many people through the experience as possible, but unfortunately cannot ensure everyone at the event will get a chance to play," said Ivan Blaustein, Director of Product Integration. "We are in discussions with several major theme parks and arcades with locations in Southern California, so hopefully everyone will get an opportunity to try it for themselves soon."
