CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Sep 21, 2015) - The smell of fresh cut grass will soon be a distant memory, but there is still time to get your mow on as Gold Eagle Co., makers of America's #1 selling brand of fuel stabilizers and ethanol treatments, STA-BIL®, and the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) take to the turf for the STA-BIL 360° Performance Nationals. The 23rd annual national championship will feature Turf Titans and Sod Slingers of lawn mower racing fame from across the country as they go head to head at the Fall Auto Fair at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The STA-BIL 360° Performance Nationals will determine champions in 11 classes who race at speeds of up to 60 mph with all blades removed. Racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights.
Racers from 20 states are scheduled to compete including sod slingers from the Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Mason-Dixon, Michigan and Tennessee Lawn Racing Associations, as well as from local lawn mower racing tracks across the country. The lineup will include famed racers, including The Ace of Blades, The Garden Gangster, Turfinator and Sodzilla.
The Fall Auto Fair will also feature the national Terra Cross Championships, Sept. 26-27 and the annual induction ceremonies for the USLMRA Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame. The 7th annual USLMRA Lawn Mower Racing Hall of Fame will induct two new members on Sunday, Sept. 27:
- The Mikula Family
The Mikula Family of Grand Rapids, MI will be recognized for hosting the annual Huntington's Disease Race For Research, which raised more than $120,000 over its 12-year run which ended in 2014. Huntington's disease is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is no effective treatment or cure. The efforts of the Mikula family, and for many years in partnership with the Michigan Lawn Mower Racing Association, are unlike any other activity in USLMRA history. The Mikula family has been honored by the Huntington's Disease Society of America for their efforts, have had honors and accolades bestowed upon them within their community and beyond and have taken a place of high esteem within the USLMRA racing community.
- Jim and Janet (The Lawn Blonde) Witt
Lawn mower racing is a family sport. This husband and wife duo loved the sport more than anything no matter what obstacles in life stood in their way. Jim Witt was National USLMRA Tech Director, and his late wife, Janet, was beloved by racers across America. Several years ago the Lawn Blonde the lost her battle with cancer and those who knew her lost a member of the lawn mower racing family who was loved and respected by all.
