CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Sep 22, 2015) - Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), Chicagoland's leading independent recycling and waste diversion services provider, announced it has been awarded exclusive six-year commercial and residential contracts to deliver comprehensive recycling and waste collection services for the City of Highland Park, Illinois; services begin Jan. 1, 2016.
"We are pleased to announce the selection of Lakeshore Recycling Systems as our commercial and residential recycling and waste collection partner," stated Ghida S. Neukirch, City Manager for the City of Highland Park. "The City of Highland Park proactively strives to become a more sustainable and eco-friendly community, and our partnership with Lakeshore brings forward progressive solutions that will continue Highland Park's position as an environmental steward."
In 2014, LRS earned more than $110M in revenue, largely fueled by a significant expansion of new and existing business in education, retail, municipal and residential service markets throughout Chicagoland.
"We are thrilled to welcome Highland Park to the LRS family," said LRS Managing Partner Joshua B. Connell. "Highland Park residents and businesses will benefit from our service efficiency and technology innovation, including our embedded RFID chip technology on every bin to ensure service verification. In regards to organic recycling, we will be providing Highland Park residents the ability to combine food scraps with yard waste in one recycling bin that we turn into compost."
According to Connell, the availability of organic recycling is the first initiative of its kind anywhere in Illinois, and will be available to residents on an opt-in basis during yard waste recycling season: April 1 to Dec. 15, each year. He added that LRS also will work with Highland Park schools, as is customary with all LRS customers, to help educate the next generation on the importance of reusing and recycling discards to achieve long-term sustainability.
In addition to the City of Highland Park, LRS has recently won service contracts of some of Chicago's leading northern suburbs, including: Deerfield, Riverwoods, Bannockburn, Skokie and Golf.
LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley heralded the contract as a significant win for LRS, and welcomed Highland Park's 9,200 residences, and 500-plus businesses to the LRS fold.
"Highland Park represents a tipping point for LRS and we now have a strong operating platform for rapid expansion in Chicago's northern suburbs," Handley said. "I am thrilled we are able to deliver to the residents and businesses of Highland Park a truly customizable waste solutions program that incorporates both cutting-edge technology, service innovation, and fulfills their desire for organic recycling, a first-of-its-kind program in Illinois."
The company attributes its surging growth in northern Illinois to a continuous focus on delivering creative, innovative service plans its customers demand. LRS is a diversified company providing commercial, residential, recycling and roll-off waste collection and diversion services to commercial and municipal customers. LRS operates five Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Illinois, and is the recipient of Chicago Public Schools' coveted Best Partnership Award for suppliers who demonstrate superior commitment to students and a strong track record of collaboration.
At over 1.6 million recycled tons-per-year, no other independent company in Illinois collects, diverts and recycles as much as LRS. This summer, LRS was ranked #31 on Waste360's annual ranking of the Top 100 waste and recycling companies in North America.
