LAKE WORTH, Fla., Sept. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Florida Chiropractor, Dr. Jack Cacic, is warning auto accident victims not to assume an absence of physical injury symptoms means that no injury occurred. According to Dr. Cacic, serious musculoskeletal injuries, including whiplash, can occur at speeds as slow as 5mph. The chiropractor warns that many accident victims walk away believing that they are "okay" only to find weeks later that they are suffering from neck pain, headaches, back pain, shoulder pain or other injury symptoms. The chiropractor advises a prompt diagnostic appointment to determine the full extent of injuries and help victims take immediate steps for pain management and injury rehabilitation.
"Many of the auto accident patients that we treat walk away from their accident with only a few bruises and cuts," said Dr. Cacic, founder of Lake Worth Chiropractic and Wellness. "Unfortunately, walking away from an accident can be deceptive. The absence of obvious physical injuries does not mean that a victim is uninjured or healthy."
Whiplash injuries are one of the most common auto accident injuries that can happen at speeds as slow as 5mph. These injuries cost upwards of $30 billion each year in medical care, disability, sick leave, lost productivity and litigation, according to MedicineNet.
Rear-impact accidents, including fender benders, can cause a whiplash injury. While this injury is common, due to a lack of understanding about the injury's severity, it is often ignored or mistreated, warns Dr. Cacic.
"Whiplash injuries are serious and should not be taken lightly," said Dr. Cacic. "Without effective treatment, whiplash injuries can lead to chronic pain for months or even years. Accident victims need diagnostic exams immediately after injury rather than waiting until the onset of pain."
Common symptoms of whiplash injury include neck stiffness and soreness, a recurring headache at the base of the skull, jaw pain, shoulder pain, and neck pain. Accident victims may also experience difficulty sleeping at night and struggle to focus on simple tasks or recall information, said Dr. Cacic.
"Medication can numb whiplash pain, but it is not a long-term treatment strategy. I recommend a full diagnostic exam after an accident to determine the precise location of the musculoskeletal misalignment that is causing whiplash injury pain. Once this location is identified, we can create a chiropractic care plan for pain relief and injury rehabilitation."
Lake Worth auto accident chiropractor Dr. Cacic has been treating auto accident injury patients for more than two decades, focusing specifically on providing non-invasive, drug-free pain relief.
"Our treatment goal is two-fold," said Dr. Cacic. "First, we provide immediate pain relief without the need for medication. Secondly, we focus on bringing correct alignment back to the spine, correcting the underlying mechanical cause for pain. This approach provides long-lasting pain relief."
