Unitek College Unveils New Concord Branch Campus

Metroplex Office Centre Tower Lease Includes Over 24,000 Square Feet of Classroom & Laboratory Learning Space Spanning Two Floors

CONCORD, Calif., Oct. 06, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Unitek College today, announced the opening of their Concord branch campus bringing the total number of campus locations to six. The college is located in the Metroplex Office Centre at 1401 Willow Pass Road and will occupy over 24,000 square feet of classroom and laboratory space housed on two floors. Much of the space in this Class A office tower was previously occupied by the University of Phoenix.

“The opening of our Concord location brings our total enrollment to over 1,700 students,” says Janis Paulson, chief executive officer of Unitek College and parent company Health Ed, Inc. “The rise in enrollment numbers over the last three quarters underscores the need for quality nursing and medical and dental assisting education in the Bay Area.”

Unitek College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. The Concord location will offer vocational nursing, medical assisting, dental assisting, pharmacy technology and IT.

Unitek College boasts one of the highest aggregate NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) pass rates in the Bay Area for vocational nursing and has received ACCSC’s School of Excellence award twice in the last three years for its Fremont and Sacramento campus locations. The vocational nursing program combines classroom lecture, onsite lab hours and offsite clinical rotations in local sub-acute facilities and clinics.

Parts of Concord, Martinez, Pacheco and Pleasant Hill East have been designated a Primary Care Shortage Area (PCSA). The designation takes factors such as access to primary care clinics, number of hospitals and poverty rates into consideration. This lack of primary care – and the nursing shortage in general – makes access to the services of vocational nurses and medical assistants in local clinical settings critical to a healthy community.

The newly-renovated space includes clinical teaching wards, dental operatives, a dental laboratory, a pharmacy technician teaching center, IT classrooms and computer labs. The Concord Campus location will serve 250 to 300 students in modern clinical settings using technologically advanced medical SIM dolls and the latest monitoring and diagnostic equipment.
