SPYR Building Its Mobile Games Division as Revenues in the Digital Games Industry Are Projected to Balloon to $100 Billion by 2018

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 14, 2015) - Executives at SPYR, Inc. (OTCQB: SPYR) are surely aware of the growing revenue numbers that are being projected for the digital games industry. The first sign is the company’s recent hiring of Paul Thind as its Managing Director of Mobile Games and Applications. Thind’s resume contains one success story after another in a number of industries including, entertainment, internet, mobile games, virtual world and the digital media space.

Thind has already started to build his team and surround himself with the experts in the industry that SPYR’s leadership hopes will translate into SPYR being the next brand that Thind builds. Paul Thind and SPYR CEO James R. Thompson have made Sophia Lee, the CEO of ActiveSearch Consulting, Inc., SPYR’s first addition to Thind’s team. Sophia, through ActiveSearch Consulting, will be in charge of user acquisition, marketing and performance of SPYR APPS' mobile games and apps. The company believes that Sophia’s extensive experience in product launch, alpha & beta testing, user acquisition, engagement, retention, customer lifecycle/loyalty and win-back make her the ideal person to create success for SPYR APPS.

The timing of the Thind hire and SPYR’s efforts to grow its team and its mobile game and app development business comes just as new data from Juniper Research, a firm that specializes in identifying and appraising new high growth market sectors within the digital ecosystem, estimates that the digital games industry will generate revenues of just over $80 billion in 2015, with projected revenues rising to $104 billion by the end of 2018.

Interestingly, as the projected revenue numbers in the digital games industry grow, so too does the contribution of mobile platforms to that number. According to Juniper Research, while the majority of the digital games growth continues to come from the PC market (42% of the industry in 2015), mobile platforms like smartphones and tablets will account for 35% of the more than $100 billion of projected revenue by the year 2020.

Juniper points out in its new research report, “Worldwide Digital Games Market 2015-2020,” that “the mobile games contribution to the digital games industry has seen impressive uplift over the past few years, largely due to the popularity of ‘freemium games’ whereby users make in-app purchases in games such as Clash of Clans, Candy Crush and Game of War.”

SPYR has already contributed to the “freemium” games craze with the successful release of both “Plucky” and “Plucky Rush.” The company is creating fun and engaging social games for mobile platforms and, in the process, is utilizing the “freemium” monetization model that Juniper writes about in its report. This model leverages advertising as well as in-app purchases to drive revenue into the company.

Paul Thind, who has 17 years of experience in the industry and is a recognized digital authority in online games, mobile games, and virtual worlds, will manage the development, marketing, monetization and acquisition of mobile games and apps for the company. SPYR has shown that it intends to compete in the industry, and the company is making all of the right moves to ensure its brand is among those competing for the ever-increasing digital games revenues.
