NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As Veterans Day approaches, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has announced that it has teamed up with the Love the GIVE campaign to encourage Americans to honor those who have served by sharing acts of kindness through social media using the hashtag #GIVE2VETERANS.
Love the GIVE, a campaign run by the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, has pledged to donate $1 to the Bob Woodruff Foundation for every #GIVE2VETERANS post on Twitter, Instagram, Google+ or Facebook, from now through November 15, up to a total amount of $500,000.
"We are extremely grateful for this opportunity to not only salute those who have defended our country, but to encourage random acts of compassion for others," said Anne Marie Dougherty, Executive Director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
"Love the GIVE is about celebrating any act of giving, and I can't think of anyone more deserving of our continued gratitude than our veterans," said Alex Cohen, President of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.
Founded in 2006, the Bob Woodruff Foundation creates long-lasting, positive outcomes for our nation's wounded, ill and injured veterans, service members and their families, by finding, funding and shaping initiatives that enrich the lives of these heroes.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation hopes to sponsor at least one half-million posts by its 9th Annual Stand Up for Heroes event on November 10, 2015. Stand Up for Heroes, a night of comedy and music in New York, is an annual event presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival benefiting the Bob Woodruff Foundation and is supported by Veterans On Wall Street, founding sponsor GFI Group Inc. and the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation.
